“I think that the Patrol appears to be heading in an excellent direction and
appreciate the efforts of the officers and volunteer team. There is
definitely heightened visibility. And the information coming to Patrol
members is very helpful. Someday I hope that the City and County police
departments reach the point where they can provide sufficient community
policing but until then we seem to need private Patrols.”

“Phil and I received a lot of information when we came by the office on Ponce
during the open house and since then have had officers come by our house to
introduce themselves to us. We think there is more visibility of the patrol
car and know by reports by the officers that they have checked on our house when
we are away. Obviously we are concerned about the number of incidences of theft
in our area and think having more people join would enable the association to
increase the number of patrol hours. It would also be a huge help with more
visibility to hopefully control the speed of the traffic in this area.”

“Increased
reporting of area incidents has reminded us that our quiet neighborhood is part
of a major city. DHP's recent security enhancements are particularly welcome in
that context. “

“I
always feel better going on trips knowing that the Patrol will be checking up on
my house while I am gone, and I appreciate the report I get upon my return. I
also appreciate the updates on what is going on in the neighborhood.”

“Druid Hills has needed a more concentrated neighborhood-driven emphasis on the
Druid Hills Patrol for a long time. A concerned core group of our community
appear to have taken a leadership role in addressing the safety concerns of
Druid Hills. This thoughtful overhaul has been long overdue.
Cars have raced down our streets endangering our children and our safety. The
flashing lights and the presence of the Druid Hills Patrol security car have
slowed down the traffic through our neighborhood and have begun to make our
streets safer. When we are our of town , we have asked the Patrol to monitor our
property. Timed reports looking in on guests staying at our home have made us
feel more comfortable about leaving our home a little more secure.
I think the
potential for the Patrol is huge. If we could just increase participation and
funding to create a Patrol that truly represents all of us, we could begin to
fund many more important projects. I am interested in increasing the Patrol to
24 hour survellience. One project I am particularly interested in is
the coordination of our Security Alarm company with the Druid Hills Patrol. If
an alarm in our home could notify the Patrol to come to our home in case of an
emergency, this would solve the long delay of the DeKalb Police response to an
emergency.”

“As a 6-year
resident of Druid Hills and a new member of the DHP, I couldn't be happier with
the direction the DHP has taken. DHP provides both proactive and responsive
assistance. The DHP website offers up-to-date information regarding issues,
incidences and precautionary measures. The Patrol car is well-marked and has a
visible presence in our community.
Bottom line: I
feel better informed and more secure.”

“The recent reorganization of the Patrol has been incredible. Their visibility in the neighborhood with the easily identifiable Patrol car has been a real plus. I can't begin to say how especially impressed I've been with the communication. The "Ride Reports" come frequently and it is a real eye opener to see what goes on crime-wise in the neighborhood.
I recently took advantage of notifying the Patrol when I was on vacation so my house could be checked carefully while I was gone. A few days after my return, I received a "welcome home" email that included an attachment with a copy of hte log that was kept for checking my house while I was away. It included the date and time my house was checked, the officer that checked it, and a note that all was secure and "ok". Wow!”

“I am impressed with Sgt. Singh's commitment to improving and expanding the
Patrol. He realized the need for a new patrol car, researched possible
vehicles, and drove out-of-state to inspect and buy one. He has altered his
daily commute between his home and his precinct so that he can drive through our
neighborhood even when he is not actually on Druid Hills Patrol duty. And, as
an added bonus, he is personable and pleasant!”

“The visibility of the patrol car and the email updates are tangibles
and powerful selling points. The only thing holding potential patrol
members back is the sticker shock. Hopefully the visibility and the
email updates, etc, will close a few more deals. Every other house with
signs would keep the hours up.”
