Congratulations to the
Atlanta Police Department's 2007 Supervisor of the Year, DHP
Officer-in-Charge, Sgt. Tony Singh!
DHP Officer-in-Charge, Sgt. Tony Singh,
was named APD Supervisor of the Year by the Atlanta Police Foundation (see
the link in "News Center" on the
APD website).
The Foundation recognized Tony for "his community-oriented approach, coupled
with hands-on management, [that] has enhanced crime reduction . . ."
From a pool of 600 supervisors, The Atlanta Police Foundation chose our man,
the OIC who so ably directs DHP officers with the people skills, humor,
humility, and common sense upon which so many of you have commented
favorably.

President's Report
The last quarter has
been enormously busy for DHP. Based on recurrent email and voicemail
feedback from members, I am confident asserting that we are having
noteworthy impact in our neighborhood and surrounding areas.
* As I write this, our membership has risen 87% from 98 to 183
property owners since January 1, 2007;
* Our Administrator (Sophia Terranova) and Webmaster (Olga Jiminez)
continue to upgrade and update our website. They remain focused
on using their digital expertise to enhance administrative efficiency.
And, of course, members may find all DHP Quarterly Updates and bi-weekly
Ride Reports archived online for reference.
* Tony has directed our officers to address the speeding problem
on our streets. He has alerted Zone 6 (APD) and Dekalb County of the
dangerous speeds that cars travel in the neighborhood. He has been
instrumental in: getting APD officers to spend extra time on The By Way,
Oakdale, and Springdale ; arranging for our officers to occasionally
patrol in an APD vehicle (from which they can issue speeding citations)
and station them in the Atlanta portions of our catchment area;
directing MPO Lynn Eshelman to use her DPD motorcycle while on patrol,
to target speeders on Lullwater, Oakdale, Oxford, Springdale, and The By
Way, as well as to do stop sign enforcement.
* DHP has received at least half a dozen calls from neighboring
communities for consultation on how to either start or upgrade a
security patrol. We are emulated by others as a model organization
for the public/private partnership that is DHP.
* The DHP catchment area now includes N Ponce de Leon and Barton
Woods. Our new member, Judi Shur, requested that we consider adding
their two streets to our patrol area.
So, from me personally
and speaking for the rest of the Board of Directors, thanks so much for
your continued support, and trust in our efforts to make Druid Hills a
safe place to work and play.
Sincerely,
John Paddock
