The Patrol offers real police coverage.
-
The Patrol officers are all
Dekalb County or City of Atlanta police, not security guards, so they are in
direct communication with police headquarters and have the authority to
arrest.
-
Always in uniform, the officers
wear some form of police identification while patrolling, and their cars
usually bear the "Druid Hills Patrol" sign.
-
"Patrolling" consists of
walking, bicycling or driving slowly through the neighborhood, watching for
suspicious activity and stopping to get a closer look at questionable
circumstances or people.
-
Patrol officers often stop to
talk to members or to do random checks of the exterior and out-buildings of
members' homes, documenting their visits by leaving notes and sending an
email message the day of their visit.
-
Officers will also check homes daily while the owners are away. A simple
request via the Patrol phone or a note left in the Patrol mailboxes is all it takes.
